Relationship Counselling
My approach offers clients the opportunity to explore options. Clients will give themselves the chance to make changes needed to enjoy a happier and more fulfilling relationship. Some will decide to separate in a much more positive way than without the support of couples counselling.
We will explore all of the problems and issues that are challenging you at this moment. I will ask questions that will help you open up and communicate better. We will discuss experiences from the past as well as present that may have affected why you are here today, how you are dealing with the problems facing you at the moment and how you have dealt with them in the past. We may look at family history and how this might be affecting you now and your progress generally.
The main areas I cover in Couples and Individual Relationship Counselling are: Separation & Divorce, Children, Sexual Issues and Communication.
Separation & Divorce
Separation and divorce can be a very painful and stressful process. My methods will allow you to find a way to overcome these issues and safeguard the welfare of any children that may be involved.
Sexual Issues
Sexual issues are common concerns for people seeking relationship counselling. Sex can often feel awkward to talk about and it is important that a safe and relaxed atmosphere is created for clients to work through their concerns. Simply talking about sex openly in the safety of the counselling environment can improve things greatly.
Children
There are often issues around parenting which can be exacerbated when there are communication problems. My approach will explore ways to ensure that children are prioritised especially when a relationship breaks down.
Communication
The safety and privacy of the counselling environment will allow couples to communicate with complete transparency in a way that they might find difficult in normal life. In this way we can get to the truth quicker and find a way to address issues that occur due to lack of communication
Relationship therapy aims to change the way in which we behave with each other, whether in a couple context or the wider relationships in our lives. It is important that people become more able to talk openly about how they feel and learn how to express themselves well. Avoiding this puts couples and families at greater risk of distancing themselves from each other and ultimately growing apart.
